Sharing Control Schemes
From Expz To SirJeivus, Thu 5 Apr 2012 - 4:05
小弟好奇想知道你是用哪几个键盘键来玩tetris。小弟想参考您的,set-up不知sirjeivus原意分享吗?
He asked me what my control setup is. I thought this would be a good opportunity to share it.
L/R: Left/Right Arrows
Soft Drop: Down Arrow
Hard Drop: Space Bar
CW Rotate: Up Arrow
CCW Rotate: Left Control
Hold: Z

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
Whoa SirJeivus, your setup looks really uncomfortable. Which fingers do you use for Space, Left Control, and Z?
My setup is:
L/R: Left/Right Arrows
Soft Drop: Up Arrow
Hard Drop: Down Arrow
CW Rotate: Z
CCW Rotate: X
Hold: C
I used to have a different scheme, but after 2 years I started having doubts about it, especially because I divided the keys 2/5 between my left- and right hand.
So I decided to switch and I just copied Blink's, because he was the best player I knew of, and I thought if he could be that good with his setup, I could too.
I'm not saying his setup was superior to someone else's, but it was psychologically reassuring to know that my control setup wasn't holding me back, because Blink did so well with it.

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
The setup is actually okay. Those controls I use were TetriNET 2.0 defaults...so I got used to that.
Re: Sharing Control Schemes
I had change my setup to
L/R - Left & Right arrow
Hard Drop - Up arrow
Soft Drop - Down arrow
Hold - Shift
CCW Rotate - Z
CW Rotate - X
My sprint speed just can't get any faster than 1.30 sec.
Any way can I get better record?

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
Yep, you can practice!
A key setup won't magically make you faster, unfortunately.
Only practice can do that, the most important thing to note when trying to get faster is that you're not 100% reliant on how fast your fingers move, what matters the most is how fast your brain can think and determine where to put your pieces.

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
L/R: A/D
Soft Drop: W
Hard Drop: S
CW Rotate: 2 (numpad)
CCW Rotate: 3 (numpad)
Hold: 1 (numpad)
I'm not so sure which rotate is CW and which is CCW actually. I also switched my soft drop and hard drop keys just a week ago because it was tiring to reach up to W during Sprint games. It's taking me a while to get used to TSpinning and other softdrop spins.

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
I thought I recognized that control scheme Jason :p
Mine is similar except I moved it over
Left - j
Right - L
Soft drop - k
Hard drop - space
Cw - I
Ccw - d
Hold - f
180 - g which I rarely use anyway
I think I'm gunna try to switch my hd button off of space though n put my cw on my left hand since its supposedly more efficient to put all rotates on 1 hand n all directionals on the other. Just been too lazy :p

Re: Sharing Control Schemes
I moved my controls recently, taken hard drop off the space bar. So now it is:
L/R = L/R
Soft drop = down
Hold = A
CW/CCW = S/D
Hard drop = F
180 = up
A little while back, I did a little counting off two random 40L sprints, for the times each keys were pressed. The rough figure is that out of 300 plus some total key strokes, hard drop makes up about 30% (a bit over 100 pieces as you'd expect), left & right each make up about 20%, CW and CCW together makes up about 25%, the rest are hold. Not sure if it is comparable in versus play, but might be something to think about when deciding on a control scheme overhaul (how to distribute between two hands, which to give to stronger finger etc.)
